FAQs of High-Speed Cameras FPS

How to perform dark field correction with a high-speed camera

STEP1-Cover the lens cap or the CMOS dust cover.

STEP2-Turn off the camera, and uncheck the options for enabling dark field correction and bright field correction.

STEP3-Click on "Set Dark Field" and then click "OK".

STEP4-After the prompt indicates that the dark field setting is successful, check the options for enabling dark field correction and bright field correction.

STEP5-Click on "Preview" to complete the dark field setting.

The SDI monitor of the high-speed camera does not display the image.

The output format of the ultra high speed cameras is the image format YUV422, with a resolution of 1080P @50fps, and it complies with the 3G SDI SMPTE292M standard. Please confirm that the SDI monitor supports 1080P @50fps and SMPTE292M. If the image still cannot be displayed, you may need to replace it with an SDI monitor from another brand.

The sequence of images captured by the high-speed camera cannot be viewed, and the video cannot be played.

If BMP, JPG, and TIF formats cannot be viewed, it might be due to issues with the image viewer's encoder. Please download "Kantuwang" or other image viewing software.

If AVI files cannot be viewed, please try changing the video player or install the Windows player upgrade patch package windows.10.codec.pack.v2.1.8.setup.exe (downloaded from the internet) and then play the file.

RHVD files should be played using our motion analysis software. If you don't have the software or if it still can't play after installation, please contact the sales engineer.

If MP4 format cannot be viewed, it might be due to issues with the video player's encoder. Please download PotPlayer or other video playback software.

The high-speed camera indicates insufficient memory.

First, check the memory of the high-speed camera. Click on “Preview,” right-click on the device list, select the high-speed camera properties, and check the memory status. If it is full, delete the videos from the memory list before proceeding with the shooting.

If the memory is not full, it may be that the parameters do not support the memory required for the next shot. You can find the “Save Length” and reconfigure the parameters.

If you still cannot take photos after setting, please check whether the authorization has expired. If it has expired, authorize it in time and continue to use it.

About the external trigger signal of the high-speed camera

The high-speed camera supports a variety of trigger level signals depending on the model. The actual supported signals will be displayed in the trigger mode of the software.

High level: 5V signal, threshold 3.3V

Low level: 0V signal, threshold 1.8V

Rising edge: Pulling up from 0V to 5V, with an upward threshold of 3.3V

Falling edge: Pulling down from 5V to 0V, with a downward threshold of 1.8V

Short circuit: The BNC center pin is connected to the BNC outer shell

Open circuit: The BNC center pin is disconnected from the BNC outer shell

How does A High Speed Camera Work?

A high-speed camera captures slow-motion video by recording at an incredibly high frame rate, then playing it back at a normal speed. This process of "stretching time" relies on three key components working in perfect harmony:

Capture: The compact high-speed camera uses a fast global shutter and brief exposure time to freeze motion without blur, capturing thousands of crisp images per second.

Store: The massive flow of image data is temporarily held in high-speed internal RAM before being saved to a large, onboard SSD for reliable storage.

Transfer: A high-speed interface like 10Gb Ethernet quickly moves the large video files to your computer for analysis.

Why Does This Matter for Your Application?

The quality of these components directly impacts performance, reliability, and value—key factors when evaluating high speed camera cost. As a professional high speed camera manufacturer, Revealer optimizes this entire pipeline. Our cameras are engineered with robust hardware to deliver precise data for demanding R&D and industrial applications, ensuring your investment is sound.

What is the difference between a BSI and a conventional CMOS sensor in a high-speed camera?

A Backside-illuminated (BSI) sensor, used in our NEO series, repositions the wiring layer behind the photodiode. This allows more light to reach each pixel, significantly improving low-light sensitivity and quantum efficiency. Compared to conventional front-side-illuminated (FSI) CMOS sensors, BSI technology enables our cameras to achieve higher frame rates with shorter exposure times and superior image quality in challenging lighting conditions, which is vital for applications like ballistics, micro-explosions, or spark ignition analysis.

How to choose the right high-speed camera for PIV or DIC applications?

The choice depends on your specific needs:

For PIV: Prioritize frame rate and light sensitivity. You need sufficient fps to resolve particle displacements between pulses. Our high-sensitivity BSI cameras (e.g., NEO series) are ideal for low-seeding density or high-speed flows.

For DIC: Prioritize resolution and sensor global shutter. Higher resolution (like our 21MP cameras) provides better spatial accuracy for strain measurement. A global shutter ensures all pixels are exposed simultaneously, preventing motion distortion.

Our technical team can provide a detailed comparison and recommendation based on your test parameters.

Do you provide custom configurations for specific research needs?

Absolutely. As a leading manufacturer with full-stack R&D capabilities, we regularly provide customized solutions. This can include specific sensor modifications, specialized optical interfaces, enhanced cooling systems for extreme environments, customized memory or triggering configurations, and even firmware adaptations for unique experimental setups. Contact our engineering team to discuss your project requirements.

What is the price of a 5,000 fps or 10,000 fps camera?

High speed camera prices vary based on resolution, sensor sensitivity (BSI), and onboard memory. Contact our engineers for a customized wholesale quote based on your frame rate requirements.

What is the average high speed camera cost?

The cost of high speed cameras varies significantly based on frame rate and sensor technology. Entry-level industrial models may start at lower price points, while ultra-high-speed BSI systems (up to 25,000 fps) are premium investments for scientific research. Contact Revealer for a direct manufacturer quote to get the most competitive pricing.
