Observation of Droplet Transfer and Molten Pool Dynamics in GTAW

Intense arc light generated during GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) tends to obscure droplet outlines, while surface reflection on the molten pool leads to blurry observation. Conventional commercial imaging equipment struggles to simultaneously capture three critical welding dynamics: electric arc, metal transfer droplets and molten pool.

The Revealer S1315 high-speed camera is adopted to record the full microscale welding process at 10,000 frames per second with high definition. Equipped with a customized optical imaging solution to suppress arc glare interference, the system successfully records the entire evolution of arc morphology, droplet transfer behavior, as well as molten pool flow and solidification.

Abnormal working conditions including arc deflection, arc breakage and arc wandering can be directly identified. This provides visualized experimental evidence for optimizing GTAW procedures, stabilizing weld formation and improving welding metallurgical quality.
