Fine Observation of Arc and Molten Pool in TIG Welding

Fine Observation of Arc and Molten Pool in TIG Welding

During TIG welding, intense arc radiation is generated. The edge state of the molten pool and its wetting behavior exert a remarkable impact on welding quality. Traditional imaging methods suffer from severe arc light interference, making it difficult to capture fine details.

A Revealer high-speed camera was adopted for TIG welding of 304 stainless steel. With a frame rate of 1000 fps and an exposure time of 10 μs, combined with low-power pulsed laser active illumination, arc light interference was effectively suppressed. This system clearly visualizes the arc morphology beneath the tungsten electrode, wetting behavior at the molten pool edge, and disturbances on the molten pool surface caused by shielding gas flow.

It provides a visual and quantitative method to evaluate molten pool stability under different shielding gas ratios, tungsten electrode angles and welding currents, and is applicable to welding process qualification in the aerospace industry.
